MPS / Reacher Configuration- IP 40 was created by Barney1964
Dear All

On our recently purchased IP 40, we have a MPS / gennaker that comes with a sock (snuffer) to help with setting / furling. We also have a spinnaker, but that can wait for another thread.

Looking at a couple of things here (and being very careful that our Ozzie terminology may confuse).

Where is the best place to secure the tack?

Whilst the next question will be determined by the cut of the sail - on gut feel.... run the sheets through the turning blocks found about two feet from the transom OR through the cars used for the headsail sheets??

There is also a white plastic 'thingy' that seems to sleeve over the furled headsail, but I cannot make out what / how / why / where.... (I think I may need to attach a photo of "it".

Any other suggestions (eg) is it necessary (or even prudent) to run lazy sheets for the MPS - if run, then where and how??

Many thanks

Lester & Helen

Lester & Helen,
Your third item answers the first! Your white plastic thingy is a 'tacker' that you rig around your furled headsail, and to which you attach the tack of your gennaker with a quick release snap shackle: you also attach your downhaul to the tacker, and run the downhaul down to a block on a shackle affixed to the forward end of your deck forestay tang; and lead the downhaul then aft to one of your bow cleats.

Try setting your tacker about five feet above the deck to start: will depend on your luff length and sailing angle as to the best height for the tacker to be set. The point of the tacker is to keep the tack inboard on the centerline. When snuffing, release the quick release snap shackle to 'blow' the tack, and then snuff the sail with the sock.

Re your second item: the sheets go aft to those turning blocks which I hope then give you a fair lead to your primary winch.

Have fun with your gennaker!

Dear John

Double IP owner - that's very nice!

Thank you for all that.... does the 'white plastic thingy' aka "tacker" straddle the furled headsail, with the opening facing forward? (I imagine it would).

Kind regards

Lester
