Easy Refrigeration Insulation
Visibility Public
We have been using simple Refectix foil faced bubble insulation inside of our ice box for well over 6 years and it works well. The ice box has been running with 2 layers of this and it has been consuming 75 amp hrs per 24 hrs. So, we added 1" of foam insulation on top of this and then covered the foam with a new layer of Reflectix. The great aspect to Reflectix is that it is easy to install, fold, press into corners and then cut with scissors and tape into place. We used aluminum tape which does a great job of sealing the seams and corners. The current R-values we see with this is now: 2 layers (orig) Reflectix @ R-2 each, plus 1" foam @ R-4, plus 1 layer (new) Reflectix @ R-2 equals total R-10. This is not great, but it is twice as good as we had.
We are looking for a gain of 10 amps from this job. I am hoping the frig will now be 65 amp hrs per day. I will see....
