The stuffing box is connected to a plate and the sleeve is part of that plate. The whole thing gets bolted down to studs that are imbedded in this pink epoxy filler. It was cracked in a number of places and two of the studs were spinning in place. The fiberglass under the epoxy is soaked. It's suspected that the rudder was hit at some time in the past, knocked off center and cracked the sleeve and the epoxy. Musta been really slammed hard!
