IP Helm Seat Back Rest
Visibility Public
I have designed a new easy to make, easy to mount helm seat back rest/support for the older IPs. This idea is a spinoff from the Estero back rest that hangs on the stern rail. My new idea is to rest the seat back on the cockpit combing positioning this just forward of the ledge. This combing ledge has always been a problem when seated at the helm because your butt always hits it. So this idea, using standard 2" foam, will keep you forward of that point. The other idea is that this is then brased off the vertical stern gate rails with small starboard blocks screwed to the back. This will allow any owner to angle the back to their own preferred angle. The top is then secured with a simple velcro strap on each side wrapping around the stern pulpit. The base includes a quick release pin that goes through a SS L shape bent hardware that is also screwed to the back board, then bent under the bottom and down the front. This allows for the owner to position the cushion forward to the point they chose. This hardware can be bent on site or made by the owner. The cushion for the IP35 needs to be 24" long and 16" high X 2" thick. Here is my sketch I am working off of. Posted June 2009. Hayden
