This past summer upon discovering that our Radar needed to be replaced, in conjunction with that effort we decided to add an AIS system to complement this new radar. We chose the Digital Yacht AIT2000 AIS coupled with their AIS - VHF Splitter to simplify the installation, otherwise we would have had to install a dedicated VHF antenna. The Digital Yacht AIT2000 is a Class B AIS Transponder which will allow Galileo to also be identified to other vessels equipped with either AIS Transponders or just AIS Receivers. We coupled the AIS vessel information with our existing Garmin GSMap 545 whose software we updated to version 5.6 from Garmin, allowing it to display vessel information via a NEMA high-speed input from the AIS. This allows vessel tracking information at the Helm. This series of photos documents this addition and schematics are provided showing how it was interconnected. (Please forgive the appearance of these schematics since they were working drawings and received a lot of handling, both at my desk and during installation.)
