has anyone had any experience with Mantus anchors? How would you rate it versus a Rocna or Manson?

I've been looking for an anchor to replace an older bruce on my IP 31. Rocna is rated above Mantus- and as I understand it there are patent issues between them...Mantus being a knock off. But alas, the Rocna won't fit on my side roller because of the bail. This is a useful site to compare a variety of possibilities. Good luck.

I am closing on an IP420 next week. One of my first upgrades is a modern anchor. I have done research and the Mantus performance testing looks great. Has anyone put one on their bow?

I am the initiator of this topic/thread. Anyway, I purchased a 65 pound Mantus anchor for my IP420 in 2014. At this time Galatea was in Phuket Thailand. Since then we have crossed the Indian to Cape Town in 2015; travelled the Atlantic northwards from Cape Town to the Mediterranean - feb/apl this year; spent 3 months in the Balrearics. Only once, in countless anchoring under varied bottom types and all sorts of wind conditions up to about 50 knots, did the anchor fail us. And that once was over sheet rock in west Sumatra, where nothing would have worked. In that case we moved around the bay until we found a more suitable spot and the anchor worked just fine, as usual. the anchor sets quickly and buries down deep, just at the videos on the Mantus website show.

I would not hesitate to recommend a Mantus anchor. Oh, and by the way, I don't know how you patent an anchor; and even if there is some form of patent dispute, who cares - you will still have a great anchor.

First off you'll love the 420 a wonderful boat to sail and spend extended time on.

We have a rocna as our primary and love it. We also carry an old cqr on the bow and fortress aft. With this combination we've never had problems, though frankly we only use the rocna under normal situations.

Biggest issue is the amount of sea bottom it picks up when retrieving. We added a sea water washdown on the bow.

Good luck and enjoy your new boat.
