We were at the Dry Tortugas and witnessed 10 cubans rowing ashore in a homemade boat from Cuba. We looked at the collection of home made boats already at the Fort.

Early one beautiful morning we were treated to the Coast Guard running through the anchorage.

The tiny speck at the right of Bird Key is a rowboat. Ten Cuban nationals just got out.

The ten cubans are walking toward the Coast Guard and Park Rangers. they are on American soil!

The homemade boat is towed in. It has a diesel one cyl. Boat is made of oil drums and scrap.

Safe under flag of Fort Jefferson. The boat is towed to join the others ashore

Hand made from 55 gal oil drums and scrap parts. Desperate measures for desperate people.

A few of the ten Cubans remove possions from boat and are cared for by Coast Guard

The boat is placed with the others at the Fort. Some have car engines.

One cyl diesel. Boat is leaking from prop seal that went out.

Dale with oar used by Cubans. they looked like the Olympic team coming into the reef.

Another of the boats. I used to live in Cuba and help people escape 34 years ago.

Kanza at anchor in the harbor. All this makes me proud to be an American.
