Heading North Winter 2006
Visibility Public
This past winter Eventyr and crew enjoyed some great sailing in the Eastern Caribbean. After spending 2005 beating to windward, the route up the island chain was a welcome relief. Once we left the Windwards, we spent 90% of our cruising time sailing (mostly reefed during the early months with winds frequently over 20 knots). We were also able to visit many islands we missed on the way south. In the Leeward Islands this year we spent time anchored in Guadeloupe, St Eustatius (or Statia), Saba, St Martin and St Barts. In early April we headed to the British Virgin Islands and our favorite island Culebra in the Spanish Virgin Islands. Trish’s family visited us in Puerto Rico before we went on to St Croix. In early May we had some steady easterly winds and made a 360-mile run to Blanquilla, an offshore Venezuelan island. We made the trip in 68 hours sailing all but in and out of the anchorages! With a knot of opposing current in this area, we were very pleased with Eventyr’s performance.
