ICW run MD to FL 2015 was created by hayden
Here is a summary of our planned run from Annapolis MD to Miami FL. 2015 This will be our 5th run. Each of these legs are full days, and some can be offshore overnight runs or day trips offshore. We take laydays where needed, and we always spend many days (3-5) in Charleston South Carolina. This entire run can easily be all day trips inside with no offshore, but we prefer to skip Georgia ICW as it has 8-9 foot tides and the waterway goes 2 miles east/west for 1 mile south. You do this section one time and then you say....never again!

1. Annapolis to Solomons MD
2. Solomons to Deltaville
3. Deltaville to Hampton or Willoughby Bay
4. Hampton to Deep Creek Lock, 3:30 lock, then dock inside the canal
5. Deep Creek Lock, Dismal Swamp, South Mills Lock to Elizabeth City
6. Elizabeth City to Alligator River anchorage
7 Alligator River, Pungo Canal to River Dunes
8. River Dunes to Beaufort NC
9. Beaufort NC to Swansboro or Mile Hammock
10. Mile Hammock to Wrightsville Beach NC
11. Wrightsville Beach to Southport
12. Southport to Myrtle Beach Barefoot Landing
13. Barefoot Landing to Butler Island anchor
14. Butler Island to Georgetown, SC
15.Offshore Georgetown to Charleston SC (8-9 hours)
16. Charleston SC to Bass Creek
17. Bass Creek to Beaufort SC
18. Offshore, overnight Beaufort SC to Fernandina Beach FL (or Georgia ICW)
19. ICW or Offshore St. Marys to Cape Canaveral or Ft. Pierce FL
20. Ft. Pierce to Vero Beach (10 mile north)
21. Offshore Ft. Pierce FL to Miami FL
Welcome to Biscayne Bay!

This is simply an overview of the run. I hope this helps others.

Hayden - we did the ICW from Annapolis, MD to Jacksonville, FL for the first time this year, April through May 2015. Since it was our first time we took our time, enjoyed extended stays at the spots we really enjoyed. We took on Georgia because everyone said to avoid it and found we liked it the best. Yes, it's poorly maintained and yes, we ran aground several times but the beauty of the salt marshes and the peacefulness of being away from civilization for long stretches was more than worth it. For us each state had it's own special feel along the ICW but Georgia offered the most bang per mile in natural beauty. I doubt we'll ever do the ICW again but as a one-time experience it was truly awesome.

We wrote up our experience here:

Miss Georgia? Hayden, I'm ashamed of you. If you pull into fernadina, at least anchor and explore Cumberland for a few days. Catch some blue crab and shrimp, and explore the ruins!

William:
I agree, Georgia is beautiful, and we fully enjoyed our visits in 2011 and 2012. We took in the Jekyll Island IPY Yacht Club, I need to find my photos of that one. We enjoyed the anchorage off Cumberland Island where I shot over 100 photos. Then we moved up to the St. Mary's town for Thanksgiving and really enjoyed that. Yes, there are many great places to see and tour in Georgia, but we really like pushing on to Biscayne Bay and also the Bahamas, so now we go offshore and run the Georgia Coast and into St. Marys.
